Contextual Information

The English Willow pattern was inspired by Chinese motifs that fascinated English ceramic makers in the late 18th century.
The arrangement of the bridge, the garden fence, the central pair of birds, the pavilions and surrounding trees characterize the English Willow pattern in its standard form.
In order to promote sales, various stories were invented based on the design elements; the most famous was first published in 1849.
