SET OF KEYS ON RINGS
1990 - 1991Six large, metal skeleton keys, and three small modern keys, attached to two metal rings.
(a) Large, black, metal skeleton key with 'V & R BLACKEMORE/ BIRMINGHAM' engraved on one side of the bow. 'A' is engraved on the other side of the bow.
(b) Large, black, metal skeleton key with '4' stamped on the key bit.
(c) Large, black, metal skeleton key with no marks.
(d) Large, black, metal skeleton key with no marks.
(e) Large, black, metal skeleton key with no marks.
(f) Large, black, metal skeleton key with 'SERVANT CELL KEY/N0 15' engraved on bow.
(g) Small, modern, silver metal key, with 'RDF/LOCKWOOD' and outline of Australia map embossed on bow. '1/ RESTRICTED' engraved on other side of bow.
(h) Small, modern, bronze coloured metal key with 'C4' imprinted on bow and 'BY/ SOBOTT/ SERVICE' on other side of bow.
(i) Small, modern, silver metal key with 'STREBOR LOCKS LTD' embossed on bow and 'SF.TOT' engraved. STREBOR LOCKS LTD' embossed on other side of bow.
(j) Large, round, black metal ring.
(k) Large, round, black metal ring.
This set of keys was issued to Peter Moore when appointed Superintendent of Fremantle Prison in 1990. He was the Prison's last Superintendent, and retained these keys after the closure of the Prison on 8 November 1991.
As of 2019, object (c) remains the key used for cells in the Main Cell Block; and object (e) remains the key used for most gates around the Fremantle Prison site, and is referred to by staff as the 'E' key.
