Small ornamental plaque made from whale bone. It is slightly curved and has rounded corners. There are four holes, one in each corner. The front has the artist name inscribe and images of a sperm whale, a giant squid and a ship's anchor. it has a leather cord though 2 of the holes.

Historical information

Jack Davies (Denys John Davis) was an original shareholder in the CBWC and worked as powder monkey form 1950 - 1952.

Statement of significance

This item has social and historical significance. It was made by a local Albany artist, using materials taken from whales harvested by the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company when it was operational. Objects such as these were carved by former employees and locals who acquired whalebone, ivory and baleen from the whaling station.
