TROLLEY: OLD HAND TROLLEY, METAL AND WOOD

Overview

This old hand trolley has two brown wooden handles connected together with three brown wooden cross braces that were secured onto the handles using metal bolts.

There are two V-shaped steel bars attached to the back of the handles, near the top brace. These bars can act as legs supporting the trolley when it is laid flat.

At the bottom of the trolley is a hollow metal ledge which serves as a lifting plate/surface/platform, as well as two black wheels connected by a metal rod at the back of the handles.

Historical information

The trolley was given to the owner Frank Rosman by his daughter-in-law, who is also the donor's older sister, in the early 2000s. Frank Rosman was the owner and operator of Franklyn Hosiery store which opened on Hay Street, Subiaco in 1939. Although there was no record of who and when the trolley was produced, it was likely to have been locally made prior to 1939 as the owner had used it in the hosiery store and recently at home for moving pot plants. The donor saw it on a verge collection at his sister's place and asked to have it because it was old and connected to the Subiaco area.
