The Battle of Jerusalem occurred during the British Empire's "Jerusalem Operations" against the Ottoman Empire when fighting for the city developed from 17 November, continuing after the surrender until 30 December 1917, to secure the final objective of the Southern Palestine Offensive The British attacked Jerusalem from the west and south simultaneously. The troops attacking from the south moved up from Bethlehem, and passing eastward of Jerusalem established themselves across the Jericho road. Others attacked from the west and north-west, and cut the main road leading northward The Allies were then in command of all the main access roads to Jerusalem, and had practically surrounded It, when it surrendered.
