Historical information

The school was modelled on the British Public School system with a school uniform including straw deckers for boys.

In 1923, the girl’s uniform was a blue pinafore, white shirt, black shoes and black stockings. In winter a blazer could be worn. For boys it was knee-length shorts, white shirt, white blazer, black shoes and white socks. In winter trousers could be worn. The full uniform was to be worn at all times when out in public. The deckers only lasted until 1926.

The School was originally run by rules and regulations which the students soon became accustomed to. Discipline was strict in keeping with the times. The cane was used as was the teacher's hand or a ruler or anything else.

Prefects also enforced Law and Order ensuring that students wore their uniforms. During WWII school uniforms were hard to come by and prefects found it difficult to enforce the dress code.

In 1973 the School experimented with a School Rules Council consisting of elected representatives of the P & C Association. School Staff, the Student Representative Council, the Principal and the Principal Mistress.

The most significant decision of the Council was to scrap the enforcement of wearing the official School uniform. Apart from a mention in Kingia in 1973 the Rules Council is not mentioned again and by 1976 uniforms were back.
