WONGAN HILLS

Contextual Information

The Lake Ninan Water Ski & Sailing Club was formed in the 1960’s and at its height was the largest such club in WA, with a membership of 141 and, in 1973, with 39 boats registered. Flood gates were erected at the bridge to hold the water in. Over the years many Ski Carnivals were held which attracted up to 1,000 people and 100 watercraft. Due to insufficient water in the lake, the club went into recess from 1975-1981. The last carnival was in 1983.
