The flyer was produced by the City of Armadale as part of the campaign to complete the upgrading of Armadale Road during the 2017 State Election. In 2015 the City of Armadale and the City of Cockburn as part of the 2015 Canning By-election launched a campaign to upgrade the single lane Armadale Road so it could deal with the increase in traffic from private vehicles caused by housing developments as well as trucks accessing the Brookton and Albany Highways from the freeway. In 2015 the Armadale Road, Kwinana Freeway and Beelier Drive intersection was recorded as the seventh most congested intersection in Perth. During the 2015 Federal by-election campaign funding for the widening of most of Armadale Road was received but not for the proposed bridge. This campaign targeted the 2017 State Election for the funding of the Armadale Road Bridge and the completion of widening Armadale Road into a dual carriage way between Anstey Road and Tapper Drive. The campaign was successful and $259million was committed by the Federal ($207.2 million) and State Government ($51.8 million) to the project which was opened in December 2021

The Armadale Road upgrade campaign (2015–2021) is of local historical and social significance to the City of Armadale. The campaign reflects a period of rapid population growth and increasing transport demand, and demonstrates the City’s role in successfully advocating, during a federal by-election(2025) and a state election (2017) for improved infrastructure in partnership with the City of Cockburn. Its success in securing $259 million in state and federal funding led to the widening of Armadale Road and construction of the Armadale Road Bridge, opened in December 2021.
