Multiplo egg grader
c. 1931 - 1952Scales for weighing a single egg made from polished aluminium on a cast rectangular aluminium base with 9 fins inscribed with weights in 1/8 ounce increments. Oval cup for holding egg. Operated by a see-saw mechanism with the egg on one end and the 9 graduated weight-indicators, from 1¼ to 2¼ ounces, slotted through a vertical metal comb at the other end.
From the 1920s poultry farmers and inspectors would use an egg grader to weigh eggs. This particular tool could weigh an egg to within ⅛ of an ounce. Morawa farmer Phyllis Lloyd used this particular egg grader in the 1950s when selling eggs to people in Morawa.

"Multiplo Reg. Egg-Grader"
These egg scales comprise a see-saw mechanism with a fulcrum at the centre of a pivoting bar. One end of the bar holds a concave disc designed to hold an egg. The other end has a fan of 9 graduated weight-indicators, from 1¼ to 2¼ ounces, slotted through a vertical metal comb, which move with the bar as the egg on the other end pushes down on it. The scales are made of polished aluminium on a cast aluminium base.
