Property of HS (Harry) Whittington, 'Springhill', Brookton, Western Australia, Australia - 123

1978
Overview

The area of the original homestead that was last looked at in 1938. It had not been forgotten. Work had been carrying on there too. Trees and pastures are where the house had been. The waterlogged, saline area has been revitalised, only a small area still to recover. The trees in the Water Reserve have regained virility. Grasses are now growing to the bank of the creek.

It takes a considerable number of years to completely kill the soil. It also takes a similar period of time to restore it to productivity again. Not a task for the faint hearted.
