Children at the Donnelly River dam

Historical information

Bunnings built a swimming pool alongside the Wheatley Forestry Settlement in the early 1950s which also acted as a reserve water supply.

At a later stage, a water supply dam and pumping station were built to the south of the swimming pool. River sand was imported to create an artificial beach and a picnic area established. At some stage, a small timber jetty was built to the eastern side of the dam and a steel frame diving platform constructed in the middle of the dam. The dam quickly became a favourite and social meeting place where children frolicked at leisure, learnt to swim and participated in swimming carnivals.

This photo was taken during the 1960's.
