Studio portrait of twins 3865 Eric Charles Fairs Vic and 3866 Victor Phillip Fairs who enlisted together on 7 August 1917 and embarked on HMAT Aeneas 30 October 1917 as part of 51 Battalion, 11th Reinforcements.

Historical information

Eric and Victor Fairs were twins and both survived the war. Their younger brother, 2648 James Elvey Fairs enlisted on 16 August 1915 and embarked on HMAT Ulysses as part of 28 Battalion 6th Reinforcements on 2 November 1915. He died of woulds on 6 July 1916 and is buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery. All were living with their parents on Collier Road, Bayswater.

Estaires is a town and commune in the Department of the Nord, about 11 kilometres west of Armentieres. The Cemetery is on the eastern outskirts of the town and on the east side of the road to Bailleul. The Extension is on the far left hand side of the Communal Cemetery. The town was a Field Ambulance centre as early as November 1914, and later the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station was posted in it.
