Overview

Black-and-white image from an original print showing the interior of an early 1960s barbershop. Three barbers are cutting hair at centre left in the image; 1960s tobacco advertising for popular cigarette brands is very apparent on the walls of the shop. The barber in the front right is Frank Forgione; the two Romeo brothers, Tony and Joe, are behind him.

Historical information

This barbershop, formerly in the space between the White Star Hotel and the Royal George Hotel, was an Albany town landmark across many decades. It is probably best remembered by Albany locals of the day from the 1950s to early 1960s during Stan Kopec's tenure . The barbershop has gone, but the original shop facade has been retained, and the interior space is now part of the lounge of the White Star Hotel. The verandah post on the east end of the redeveloped site has barber's pole stripes to commemorate its former use.
