SHIP IN A BOTTLE

Overview

Handcrafted SHIP IN A BOTTLE. made in 1943 by an Italian Prisoner of war who was allocated to work on the property of John Sparks located on Tweed Rd Bridgetown, called "Stagaroona".
(Information from the family is that John Sparks was the manager of the Wesfarmers packing shed. Pops Henderson was his Uncle.)

It was a gift for Andrew Sparks (d. 1991) for his first birthday and has been donated by his brother Owen Sparks (b. 1944).

The background scene was painted with a small brush with a bent tip which was inserted through the neck of the bottle.

The ship was then constructed outside the bottle with the masts and rigging laying flat along the hull. it was then inserted through the bottle opening, secured in place and then a string was pulled lifting the masts into position.
