The end of year has come, and it’s all gone so fast. At one glance we were all getting our prefect badges and fitting on our jackets, only to find that at another, we were the ones handing them over to the 2011 Prefects.
Late 2009, as the summer was approaching the time came for prefect elections with many of us day dreaming of having the elite authority that we all desired. As many of us found, we had minimal authority but instead had to be exemplary role models. The newly elected prefect group were certainly a “motley crew”, who was eager with great ideas. Our first challenge arose with the Bandanna Day sales, with our interesting sale pitches allowing us to sell out all bandanas.
The final assembly of 2009 approached, with the farewell of the Year 12s only being the beginning for our prefect group, as we received our slightly too big jackets and our unique hand-shakes. Mr Posthumus (or as we like to call him D.Piddy) organised our prefect camp at the Dwellingup Adventure Camp, only to find out on inspection, that the accommodation was a bit “rustic”. Our first challenge was canoeing down the Murray River, followed by various other activities, such as abseiling, mountain biking and obstacle courses.
2010 commenced, and we were all eager to get our new ideas and plans into action. Our confidence took a hit as we had to get up and present speeches and introductions to the school. Knees shaking and palms sweating, we overcame our fear of crowds, well at least that’s what we thought. Boiling in our blazers in the summer heat, and being able to quickly organise a meeting in the gym in winter, we all eventually became accustomed to running assemblies.
End of year drew nearer, with many of us sick of study and school, prepared to put it all behind us and just remember the good times. Unfortunately, our year group had a rocky time completing this process. We were able to pass on our jackets to next years’ group; our final glance. To all the people who made this year what it was, we are forever grateful. To our class mates of so many years I hope you remember, as we do, the awesome experience that was.
