ORAL HISTORY (AUDIO): COTTRILL, EFFIE PHYLLIS
1984Summary: Effie Phyllis Cottrill, B.E.M (nee Cousens) was born 24 January 1894 in Victoria and arrived Western Australia in 1897. She lived in Cue and Nannine, and married Walter Cottrill in 1912. In this interview she talks about the Star of the East, Jimmy Chester; the Goldsworthy Dance Academy; Kings Hall; her apprenticeship with a dressmaker; and the Ugly Mens' Association, as well as her husband's hairdressing budiness on Rokeby Road. They sold this business in 1931 and purchased a house in Joondana house. She also talks about her British Empire Medal for services to the Returned Services League (RSL) and her dependants, as well as her experiences in Subiaco during the war years, the old fire station hall, Mrs Daglish and Dorothy Club.
