Peter Smeets from the Perth Rifle Club was awarded this medal (along with a cloth patch/badge) for achieving the highest score at the 1973 West Australian Rifle Association Queens Prize competition. Mr Smeets donated the medal when he retired from shooting.

Contextual Information

In 1973 their was only one rifle shooting discipline and therefore the shooter with the highest score was awarded a medal. Mr Smeets competed against approximately 200 State and interState shooters. The win was remarkable in that he only took up the sport in 1969.
