Inscriptions and markings

Writing on reverse of photo reads: " Dipping at Moscow about 1925, the owner Fred Chitty left, centre Lewis and Mick, his sons. Well water was drawn by hand in a 4 gallon bucket and run to the dip through a wooden hand-hewn trough on left of photo dip is to kill lice and ked?, thus avoiding sheep irritation and wool damage. About that time Fred Chitty was fined when an inspector found one ked (tick) on a sheep at Toodyay sale yards. The sale yards were located behind the Newcastle Hotel and were closed about 1932.'

This photograph is reproduced in 'Toodyay - The Good Old Days' by Wally Chitty on p. 49. Caption: 'In the foreground, a sheep comes out of the dip and, in the background, two sheep are ready to be thrown in. Fred has a prong to dunk any that try to get through with dry heads.'
