1931Hardcover book entitled 'The Red Cross and Jane Arminda Delano' written by Mary E. Gladwin and published by W.B. Saunders Company of Philadelphia in 1931.
The book has fawn coloured cloth covers and dark brown tape protecting the spine and corner edges.
It is a former library book which was held in the Roper Hospital School of Nursing LIbrary (incorporated with the Medical College of South Carolina), and bears stamps and stickers relating to this history.
A biography of Jane Arminda Delano (March 12 1862 - April 15, 1919) is included as a supplementary file.
This book was written by Mary Elizabeth Gladwin (December 24, 1861 - November 22, 1939), a contemporary of Jane Delano. Mary Gladwin was an English-born American Red Cross nurse active in three wars, and one of the first six American nurses to receive the Florence Nightingale Medal when it was awarded by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1920.
The book was purchased to provide background to the copper plaque held in the collection which was formerly attached to a memorial tree in Jane Delano's honour.
