Wyndham Historical Society

The Wyndham Historical Society (WHS) was incorporated in 1990. Its main purpose is to foster interest in the history of Wyndham, and to collect, conserve and display historical and cultural artefacts and information for this purpose. Our main vehicle to achieving this is the Wyndham Historical Museum, formerly the Old Wyndham Courthouse, a 1950s bungalow style building, comprising 7 rooms. An outdoor display area houses (mostly industrial) larger artefacts.

Our exhibits focus on social and cultural history including local indigenous social history (incl. missions), cultural history (incl. ancient rock art), European settlement (gold, cattle), Afghan cameleers, Chinese store owners, aviation & shipping,
Wyndham Meat Works, WWII attacks, RFDS, Post Office & telegraph, natural history (incl. crocs, boabs & Gouldian finch conservation).

The museum opens 7 days a week during the Dry season (May – September) and is staffed entirely by local volunteers.
