Azelia Ley Homestead Museum Collection, City of Cockburn Local History Archive, and Art Collection
The Azelia Ley Homestead Museum and its associated outbuildings are located in Manning Park, Hamilton Hill. The heritage listed residence was built between 1920 and 1923 for Azelia Ley (nee Manning) and offers a glimpse into the life of a prosperous settler family living in the Cockburn district.
The homestead was restored by government funding, Council support, and community effort in the early 1980s, and was officially opened as a museum on 12 November 1983
Rooms and displays
The Museum has ten rooms, all with unique displays of objects and collections relating to the history of the Manning family and the wider Cockburn district. There is also a Wagon House, built to house the large collection of farm equipment donated to the museum after its opening in 1983.
The Historical Society Of Cockburn
The Cockburn Historical Society oversees the administration and running of the Museum, supported by the City of Cockburn. The Cockburn Historical Society is a non-profit volunteer organisation open to all members of the public with an interest in the history of Cockburn.
The Society was formed in 1975 by a number of local residents concerned about the preservation and recording of the cultural heritage of the Town of Cockburn. The society was incorporated in 1976 and has been meeting monthly ever since.
