The well in the courtyard at the Old Police Station was dug by convict hand in 1870 and still provides clean sweet water for those willing to try it. The well is about 12 metres deep with the top section cased with locally hewn limestone/sandstone to a depth of 3m. Visitors to the well can draw a jar of water on a rope, or can look to the bottom of the well by the reflection of the sun's rays off a mirror. Photos by Bo Wong, WA Museum.
