Max Karnaghan Collection

About This Collection

Maxwell (Max) Karnaghan (1937-2004) was a priest of the Metropolitan Community Church, Perth.
He donated vestments, chalice, banner and numerous items and documents to GALAWA (predecessor to WestPride Archives).
Karnaghan’s collection most significantly includes ‘sacred’ items he used during the services he presided over. These include MCC altar cloths, two chalices and bowls, and his personal Bible (1999). His collection also contains his vestments including white robes or ‘albs’, several ‘chasubles’ or sleeveless outer garments made of silk and satin fabric (only worn to celebrate mass); his priests ‘stole’ which is decorated with the rainbow, and his personal chain and cross.
The Rev Mario Schoenmaker conducted Max and Rev. Colin Read's ‘holy union’, which about 70 people attended (late 1970s).
Karnaghan conducted five holy unions during his period as the MCC worship coordinator.
He was treasurer of GALAWA 2003/2004.
