The first CWA Hostel for country High School students in Western Australia was opened at Northam in 1938 when Adamson House was established as a hostel for girls. In succeeding years there were student hostels opened at Albany, Bunbury and Narrogin. These hostels provided much needed accommodation for young people who had to live away from home in order to complete their High School education. Administered by Divisional C.W.A. Hostel Committees, at times, these members had to use all their ingenuity and capabilities to make the finance available provide the necessities. There were many management difficulties and staff problems, and tribute must be paid to the members who gave voluntary help which enabled the projects to run smoothly and efficiently. In 1969 Government authority took over the administration of High School Hostels, and so ended a long and worthy record of C.W.A. provision of accommodation for country High School students.
