309 Jack Howard Drummond Blythe of Bunbury enlisted on 15 February 1915 and embarked with 25 Battalion from Brisbane on HMAT A60 Aeneas on 25 June 1915. Awarded the Military Medal for great gallantry and devotion to duty near Messines on 28 June 1916 - Commonwealth Gazette 184 14 December 1916. He was promoted to Sergeant on 4 September 1916 and remained on Training Battalion duties in England until discharge on 9 November 1918.

Details
The 25th Battalion was raised at Enoggera in Queensland in March 1915 as part of the 7th Brigade. Although predominantly composed of men recruited in Queensland, the battalion also included a small contingent of men from Darwin. The battalion left Australia in early July, trained in Egypt during August, and by early September was manning trenches at Gallipoli.
