World War 1, Eastern Mediterranean, Gallipoli, Anzac Cove, LOVE, 10 Light Horse, 1915
Contemporary hand drawn map of Anzac Cove Gallipoli Beachhead drawn by Major Alan Joseph Love on 21 July 1915
Major Love was the Second-in -Command of 10 Light Horse. Frustrated at not being able to obtain a reasonably accurate map of the Anzac Cove landing area, he arranged to go on board the destroyer HMS Chalmer to prepare a field sketch. Major Love retained the map throughout the war and had it framed in Perth in 1919 on his return. The map remains within its original frame. The detail of his greeting by the Captain of HMS Chalmer has been repositioned from the back for viewing in the display panel.
