Historical information

On Sunday 12 February 1928, Mr. A. E. Bruce, Superintendent of Parks and Gardens in Canberra, gave an illustrated lantern lecture at West's Picture Garden about Canberra, 'the Garden City of the Commonwealth in the making'. Mr. Bruce, who was formerly head gardener to the municipality of Subiaco, was spending his first leave in Subiaco after two years of service in the capital. He explained that 'wherever possible we plant Australian things', but not exclusively due to the climate.
