The Kingia - August 1923

1923
Overview

The first Bunbury High School student magazine The Kingia published August 1923.

Historical information

Bunbury High School and later Bunbury Senior High School has produced a magazine for all but three years since the school opened in 1923.

From 1923 to 1967 the magazine was titled The Kingia. From 1968 onwards it was simply known as Kingia.

There was no magazine produced in 1946, 1961 or 1962.

In the early years the The Kingia was produced twice and occasionally three times a year. Most years a single magazine has been produced.

Initially the magazine was “controlled by the students”. Later it was managed by the staff and as it became more complex to produce, a staff member was appointed as coordinator to the Kingia student committee.

Over the years the covers have varied considerably in size and style reflecting the style of a particular era and advances in printing, photography and graphic art.

The content has also varied over the years from informative with student literary pieces to a lot more photographs of students plus literary pieces together with humour and light-hearted school student banter.
