Donated from the deceased estate of R (Robert) J Simper.
Henry John (aka Harry) Simper founded the wholesale fruit and produce firm of H.J and F Simper in Fremantle in 1900. He was a keen fullbore target shooter and a co founder of the Fremantle Rifle Club (now the Perth Fremantle Rifle Club) in 1902. He also served as President of the National Rifle Association of WA (now the West Australian Rifle Association). Harry Simper was a champion rifleman and was selected for the Australian Rifle Team to travel to Bisley in 1910 for the Imperial championships.
He was a Perth City councillor for 21 years. He was a keen member of the Trotting Association, a Justice of the Peace and Freemason. He died in 1954 aged 78 years. His business included the Mt Barker Orchards of South Australia. He was the treasurer of the FRC in 1904.
