Overview

German field telephone (Feldfernsprecher).. The Lower section has a folding metal speaker cup and earpiece is made from soft padded leather. It still bears much of the original field grey paint with cable and two plugs. Complete with leather carrying case.

Historical information

This field telephone is one of the four main types distributed through the German Army and its allies during World War1. This version was completely self contained needing only a power source. This was a very advanced design, compared to the British version which was in a big heavy box and needed ear phones and a separate hand piece.

This trench telephone is located in the Communications Gallery commissioned by the Australian Army Museum of Western Australia as part of the Centenary commemorations of the Royal Australian Corp of Signals.
