Contextual Information

One of a series of 11 works commissioned by the Subiaco Museum following a Lotterywest grant. The ‘Connect Community Collections Program’ provided funds for an artist in residence to create an exhibition from the Subiaco Museum collection. Christopher Young was selected as the artist.

In August 2012, Christopher collected photographic images from inside fourteen private residences exploring how people were living in their houses that were over 80-100 years old. An exhibition was subsequently held at the Museum, exploring the residential heritage of Subiaco. The exhibition opened on August 30, 2013. The photographs were accompanied with everyday objects from the museum’s collection. The exhibition addressed the notion of contemporary heritage, how objects are treated in museums, what objects are used by Subiaco people and how items in everyday use may become part of the museum collection that documents the stories of Subiaco.
