THE BRIGHTON HOTEL

Overview

B/W print of the Brighton Hotel on the Perth- Fremantle Road (now Stirling Highway). It is a solid, two-storey building of mainly Victorian Italianate design with an arched entrance above which is a square tower. The roof has a parapet featuring balusters and cast urns. The simple verandah and balcony on the right contrasts with the more ornate on the left and may be an addition. On the left is the sign [THE BRIGHTON HOT] and on the lounge windows on the right are advertisements for stout and bitter. Parked in front of the hotel are a large sedan and a two-seater tourer with dickie seat and spare tyre at the rear.

Historical information

Photo taken from the road when hotel parking area was enlarged in 1930s. Situated on the east side of Stirling Hwy, 'The Brighton' was within walking distance of the beach and was popular with holiday makers from the country. It was demolished in 1969.
