The Perth Royal Show was first held at the Claremont Showground in 1905. This 35 acre site was gifted to the Society in 1902. Previously the Show had been held on ground at East Guildford. The new Showgrounds were opened by Premier Hector Rason on 1 November in the presence of a large crowd. The new showground ring was the size of the previous entire showground, and the grandstand and other facilities were transferred from the old ground. The surrounding track, designed for cycling and horse racing events, was one of the longest in Australia at the time.
