MCDONALD embarked from Fremantle on board His Majesty's Australian Transport A24 “Benalla” on 1/11/1915. He was captured during the 1st battle of Bullecourt when the 16th Battalion was assaulting the Hindenburg Line near Reincourt. The battle repatriated to England on 2/1/1919 returning to Australia on His Majesties Transport “Euripides” 10/3/1919 for discharge 13/6/1919
