Fires-during-attacks-at-Anasarta
The British landing at Suvla Bay (6 to 7 August 1915) was part of the August Offensive at the Gallipoli. Having successfully landed, the British forces consolidated their positions rather than immediately advancing to their main objectives. Turkish reinforcements blocked any further progress and stalemate set in. The only Australians involved in the action were 300 men in the Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train (RANBT). Australians of the RANBT stayed on at Suvla Bay to create a beachhead. They built a boat harbour using hundreds of thousands of sandbags, One final offensive action at Scimitar Hill and Hill 60 on 21 August also ended in failure. Sporadic fighting continued until the final evacuation from Suvla in December 1915. The Allies suffered nearly 20,000 casualties during the landings at Suvla Bay.

Around midday [9 August] the gunfire set scrub alight on Scimitar Hill, and Ashmead-Bartlett, watching from Lala Baba, saw the British wounded trying to escape the flames:
"I watched the flames approaching and the crawling figures disappear amidst dense clouds of black smoke. When the fire passed on little mounds of scorched khaki alone marked the spot where another mismanaged soldier of the King had returned to mother earth.
