Pre 1914, Carpet Section from the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia
The floors of exhibition display cabinets in the Pre 1914 Gallery contain remnants of the original carpet from the Legislative Assembly chamber of the Western Australian Parliament. The design incorporates the black swan, imperial crown and fleur-de-lis. Western Australia and the Assemblee Nationale in Quebec City are the only lower houses in the British Westminster system to utilise a blue rather than an olive green decor. The Legislative Assembly carpet was replaced with a new design in the mid 1990s.

Woolen carpet is not recommended for showcases because of the potential for pest infestation. Special care was taken to prepare the carpets before installation and periodic checks and preventive interventions are undertaken to protect the displayed artefacts.
