Overview

Sepia SJFC football team. Players in uniform are flanked by men formally attired in suits and holding hats. A group of less formally dressed men are standing behind the team. A small boy dressed in Scottish clothes including kilt, cap and sporran is standing in front of the team. Two men are posed on the ground in the foreground, one is Grandpa Spencer. Blue ink bands have been added to elbow length sleeves and stripes added to pale coloured braces. Group are grouped in and in front of rotunda. Pleated band of yellow and red crepe paper has been attached to sides and top of photo.

Historical information

Spencer family lived in York Street (behind 'Stranraer', a nursing home) diagonally opposite Subiaco Oval gates. Parents Arthur Murray and Frances Monica (Mona) nee Spencer Murray. Frances (Mona) born 1913, married c 1933 at St Joseph's Subiaco. Cecil bought a piano in mid 1930s before they had children. Piano was made in Chicago USA. Agent G F Kearns, Hay Street Perth. Family and friends enterained with player rolls. Piano had pull-out shelf for drinks, pull out treadles operated by air hoses. Family of 7-8 children, extended family lived only streets from each other. Most of their children remained in Subiaco after growing up. Grandpa Spencer, grandfather of donor David Murray, worked for Municipality of Subiaco.
