Photograph of the library wing taken by Dr Jiří Baum during his first term visit to the school.

The large vehicle is the middle is the caravan Dr Baum and his wife used to travel around Australia.

The caravan was fully equipped with a laboratory for the developing and printing of photographs, and also included special storage space for Dr. Baum's numerous specimens.

The body of the caravan was specially designed in steel and lavishly fitted and was made in Prague by a Mr. Uhlik, a close friend of Dr. Baum.

Historical information

Jiří Baum (20 September 1900 – 1944, Warsaw) was a Czech zoologist, arachnologist, museum curator, explorer and writer. He served as the collector of the zoological department of the National Museum in Prague and is best known in his field for his 1933 book Through the African Wilderness and his 1935 zoological expedition in the Australian outback.
