Historical information

This unit, like some of the Training Battalions, had two lives - 1 in Egypt during 1915-16, and one in France 1918- 1919. They served as half way houses for casualties that were marked to return to the front. The men no longer required hospitalisation, but did not yet have the strength to be able to rejoin their units. The Egyptian version was based at Mena near Cairo from 1915 until 11 Apr 1916. The French version was established at Harfleur near Le Havre, a week after the closure of the Egyptian unit and it operated until 15 Feb 1919.
