Military Medal Citation reads:

'On the 30th September, 1917, was specially detailed to take a load of signal flares urgently required at an advanced position when all traffic was held up on the main line of communication by enemy shell fire selected a narrow track and although subject to a very heavy bombardment, delivered his load. His gallant bearing throughout his tour of duty with the Pack Troop did much to impress his men with confidence.'
