PHOTOGRAPH: STUDENT HANDLING MUSEUM OBJECTS
1996Coloured photograph of Andrew Patterson, student from Curtin Research Culture Heritage Centre 1996-1997.

Andrew was the first practicum student Subiaco Museum had from Curtin. He completed an exhibition in June 1997 on war and memory in Subiaco. The exhibition made reference to the issue of finding a location for the war memorial boards once they were displaced from the old council chamber in 1996. The refurbished chamber has a "corporate" and business image and was deemed an unsuitable location for the boards. There was community furore over this decision. The boards were relocated in 1997 at the Palms reception centre on the corner of Rokeby and Nicholson Roads. Andrew used many innovative museum techniques in his exhibition, for example, foregrounding the personal interest on himself in a curatorial role. He was supervised by the museum curator, Jennifer Garton Smith.
