From the Collection #8 - Artist In Residence Peter Dailey
Part of the "From the Collection" series prepared and distributed to a subscribers' list during 2022 as a follow on to the "Virtual Visit" series initiated during the COVID lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 The collection focus of this item are works produced during his residency by Peter Dailey. These works feature outlines of soldiers arranged to form abstract designs reminiscent of oriental carpets.
During 2015, the Museum hosted two artists in residence in a program supported by the then Department of Culture and the Arts. In addition to public events school access and master classes, Michele Eastwood and Peter Dailey each produced 5 works and a joint commission. The common inspirations were collection elements from 11 Battalion, Australian Imperial Force. The size of the works (860 x 1090 mm) parallels the dimensions of the Queen’s and Regimental Colours of the Battalion.

Typically only a small portion of a museum collection is exhibited at any one time. This is due not only to practical consideration of display space but a range of professional considerations designed to protect and preserve the artefact. This series highlights objects and stories you may have overlooked in the galleries or collection items awaiting the opportunity to be viewed and share their story.
