Overview

A photograph of Bunbury Senior High School taken during the construction of a gymnasium complex that would replace the original gymnasium/hall built in 1923.

Historical information

The original gymnasium (aka school hall) was built in 1922 behind the main building. The building was 74 feet by 34 feet, built of timber, with a ceiling that was half cylindrical.

It was fitted with six shower baths and other conveniences.

Two shelter sheds 32 feet by 16 feet were constructed at a later date, along with a stage at the south eastern end.

In 1984 work began on a new Gymnasium, Industrial Arts Centre and paved sporting facilities. The Gymnasium opened in 1986.

The original gymnasium building was condemned in 1990 as unsafe due to a large white ant infestation and was subsequently demolished in 1993.
