Cockatoos - St James

2016
Historical information

Artist statement: Sharon designed the Carnaby Cockatoo sculpture and says the idea behind the design was to have a sculpture that would fit in with the surroundings of the park and celebrate the local wildlife.
"Cockatoos is a sculpture designed to enliven the site while at the same time complementing the natural elements such as the native trees. The artwork has a sense of energy and movement and offers a contrasting, and equally dynamic experience when viewed from beneath, with the birds silhouetted against the sky. The artwork celebrates the presence of the Carnaby’s Cockatoo which frequent the local area. It affirms the delight and pleasure that native bird life brings to people, while also speaking of environmental issues. The artwork acknowledges the value of Rotary Park as a habitat stepping stone linking wildlife corridors in the Perth region. In doing so, it also affirms the value that local parks have to residents, as a link between people and the natural world.”
