Watch belonged to John Stephens , father of Merve & a ganger in the Merredin ,Wylkatchem rail districts .Watch was carried in a leather case worn on a leather belt .Levinson & sons .jewellers of Perth W.A.held a contract to supply & service all WAGR clocks & watches .Reliabilitywas paramount --no radios or portable telephones to supply constant time checks .Every railway station had a master clock which was adjusted regularly by phone from Perth .Office staff ,drivers,guards gangers etc had to synchronise with the master clockon commencement of their shift
