Details
“Aircrew prepare a Skyhawk Jet” printed at bottom right. Jet showing number ‘877’.
The Douglas A4 Skyhawk was designed for aircraft carrier operations. The RAN purchased 8 A4-G fighters and 2 TA-4G trainers in 1967 from the United States and were brought to Australia where HMAS Melbourne was the parent aircraft carrier. When HMAS Melbourne was decommissioned in 1982 the remaining Skyhawks were withdrawn from service. This promotional poster is 1 of a set of 4 believed to have originated from Garden Island Naval Base, Western Australia.
