AM1939 was a motor vessel of the 1st Marine Food Supply Platoon. It could cover the 70 mile journey between Port Moresby and Yule Island. travelling at half speed, in under 7 hours. The vessel has a cruising range of 500 miles with a capacity to transport 2 1/2 tons of fish refrigerated at 30 degrees fahrenheit. When underway i\the crew often had two outrigger poles positioned to troll for mackerel.
