Historical information

Fleurbaix is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France some 24 km northeast of Béthune and 21 km west of Lille. The Battle of Fromelles occurred in northern France between 19 and 20 July 1916, midway between the British-occupied village of Fleurbaix and that of Fromelles behind the German lines. The battle was initially named for the village of Fleurbaix at the time.
