1919Tom Edwards was struck on the head by a police baton after going to assist Fremantle Lumpers President, William Renton, in the Fremantle Wharf riot of 4 May 1919. Edwards died as a result of his wounds and thousands attended his funeral at Fremantle on 9 May 1919.
