Overview

Three photographs of the Kingia Festival Multicultural dinner held at the Italian Club.

Historical information

The theme of the 1981 Kingia Festival was "Multiculturalism".

This was the school's tribute to those peoples who have chosen to come from many countries to make Australia their own. We have been fortunate in having access to the heritage of their cultures, their dance, song and food traditions, which have enriched our lives and, to a great extent, become part of the cultural life of Australia.

Third term '81 was a very busy time for Home Economics students and staff as they prepared for the Kingia Festival's Multicultural Dinner. Foods were prepared to represent over thirty different countries and were presented as a Buffet Dinner at the Italian Club for about 250 people.

The occasion was very successful and also included multicultural dancing, music and costume.

In 1982 the Home Economics department produced a recipe booklet which included the traditional recipes prepared for the 1981 Kingia Festival.

Based on articles in the 1981 and 1982 Kingia magazine
